Treating Chronic Pain

Treating Chronic Pain

Chronic pain can mean something different for everyone, but no matter its source, it requires remedies and solutions. At Hoag Executive Health, our comprehensive physicals allow our physicians and health teams to take a deeper dive into the root cause of your chronic pain, and annual checkups allow us to track the progress of your pain.

What Is Chronic Pain?

Chronic pain is a condition that lasts for more than three months and can be debilitating. There are many causes of chronic pain, including injury, arthritis, fibromyalgia, and cancer. It is important to identify the cause of chronic pain in order to find the best treatment.

What Causes Pain?

Pain is a complex experience that can be caused by many different factors. It can be acute or chronic, and it can come from a variety of sources.

Acute pain is the type of pain that comes on suddenly and goes away quickly. It’s usually the result of an injury or illness, but it may also occur as a side effect of some medications. Acute pain usually lasts for less than six months and is not considered chronic pain.

Chronic pain lasts for more than three months and is often the result of an injury or illness that has not healed properly, such as arthritis or back problems. Chronic pain can also be caused by other conditions such as depression, anxiety, diabetes, cancer, fibromyalgia, migraines, and multiple sclerosis.

When Chronic Pain Becomes Too Much

Sometimes over-the-counter medications are not enough to treat chronic pain, and taking OTC medications for too long can cause side effects or adverse reactions. Hoag Executive Health offers the most comprehensive testing with our team of top-ranked doctors, exercise physiologists and fitness trainers. Our well-rounded team approach helps you optimize your performance to get you feeling better again.
